I went to see Charlie Parr again last night (not the first time seeing him) at the 331 club. Man, is that guy good or what? It kind of reminds you of a real life “O Brother Where Art Thou” saga. I really have a lot of respect for Charlie Parr. After all, he did trade his outboard motor for a guitar, and in Minnesota fishing is a big deal.

Let me think of yesterday. I was chillin out on my front porch with my roommate drinking some beers as I like to do after work. I look over and see this mini van with this older dude organizing his stuff. I take a good look and think to myself, that kind of looks like Charlie Parr. So I yell, “Hey! Charlie”. No response. I yell again. This time he turns around and to my surprise it is Charlie. He comes walkin down the street and we meet up and I say, “What a surprise!”. We chat for a bit and he says, “I’m just going to get Sneaky Pete and then off to the 331 club, you should come there”. What a nice guy. More musicians should be as friendly as Charlie Parr.

I remember the first time I saw Charlie play live. Gives ya that feeling, you know? Kinda like that feeling you get when the Soggy Bottom Boys started playing. Goodness. I like Charlie a lot too as he stays true to his roots. Minnesota. I was going to school in Duluth, MN and my brother invited to Wednesday night at Fitgers – when Charlie plays. I was definitely happy I went. I’ve seen Charlie Parr numerous times since that night and I have to say I’m happy I have. If you have a chance to see this legend, no matter your age, I highly recommend this treat – most of the time free too.

While I have your attention, take some time to view this video:

Exciting news for the tech world: Google has released Google Fonts API. What does this mean for you? This is a easy way for you use different fonts than the same old fonts that have been around since the start of modern browsers. Adding fonts other than web compatible browser fonts has been annoying and tedious in the past. Not anymore with what I’ll call them, “google fonts” – really though, they are open source fonts. Amazing, once again, thank you Google for making our tech lives easier and broadening the web! Can’t wait for the library to grow and use more cool fonts.

Since moving back to Minnesota I must say there are certain things missing here that I grew accustomed to living on the west coast. One of them happens to be In N Out Burger.

Today for lunch I was invited to check out Five Guys Burger and Fries. I thought maybe, just maybe, it might kind of compare to the deliciousness of In N Out Burger? No way. Not even close. Other than the Juicy Lucy there is nothing in the midwest that compares with In N Out.

These two burger companies I’m comparing are actually kind of coastal rivals. In N Out from the west coast, Five Guys Burgers from the East coast. A lot of other facts you can review on each companies website (under history). But, for now I leave disappointed with just about everything about 5 Guys Burgers: Not as tasty as IN N Out, Slow Service, missed parts of what I asked for on my burger, bad fries, slow service considering there were actually more like 20 guys working there, loud and annoying in there, greasy to-go bag, and also, really not worth the $10.15 for the regular which should be called the double and the regular fries which is so much bad, greasy fries in your paper bag there really is room for nothing else.

Oh, In N Out, when are you coming to the midwest. Please, save us.

I heard about this topic a little while back and think it’s really cool what people are doing with this technology. I definitely expect to see more of this in the future.

Street art in Dubai, I’ve been to Dubai and the opening shots are a great example of what it looks like, although I have seen better projection art, the following video has some good shots and good music:

Follow the rabbit. Pretty cool what they’re doing in this video.

More to come,

My girlfriend and I choose Stellas tonight for dinner over Red Lobster. Poor choice, really poor choice.

Mainly what we were hoping for is lobster as good as we had when we vacationed in Florida a couple of weeks ago. Stellas lobster was no where near that. It was absolutely disgusting. 0 out of 5 stars for the lobster. If you go here I implore you, don’t order the lobster.

Why, you might ask? Well, for one, this was the smallest lobster tail I’ve ever seen in my life. It’s printed on the menu as a 1 and 1/4 pound lobster tail from Maine. What it was more like is a craw fish from Louisiana. If that wasn’t bad enough when we finished the several bites from the lobster tail was the guts. Probably about 1 pound of this lobster was guts. Gross.

Stellas has always left a good impression in the past. Delicious oysters and a nice happy hour (at least that much remains). Tonight was totally imperfect. Not the stellas I remember. Maybe because it’s the start of spring break that this night was so bad but it was loud enough in there tonight to the point I feel like I’m def now after trying to have a good dinner. Prices were really high. Staff was unprofessional. I still have the stamp on my wrist from where I was carded at the door. Really, if you want a good dinner, especially if you want a good lobster dinner, Stellas Fish Cafe is not the place. I really hope someday they can bring back the classiness to this place. Well, hey, at least we got a good laugh watching the security carrying a couch past our table tonight as we dined.

For 5 days out of the week I listen to this top 40 hits station on Sirius satellite radio(NOT BY CHOICE). Well, it plays some of the most annoying, repetitive pop stuff you can possibly imagine. And not just once, yeah, it cycles through it throughout the day so you get the privilege of possibly hearing this soul-cringing music a couple times in a 8-hour work day.
So after the repetitive garbage on this station (called music) where it seems like the whole song is a chorus on repeat, I’ve decided to post this and request you submit your most annoying music ever as a comment below.
I’ll start with two musicians and songs that I just can’t take to hear one more time:
John Mayer- Heartbreak Warfare, so incredibly bad and repetitive, I wonder how many times he says “heartbreak warfare” in this horrible song.
Jason Mraz – Annoying, enough said without even mentioning the annoying & repetitive “I’m Yours”

If Orbitz (travel website) knew what was going on and actually thought like a real person who’s going online trying to find the best deal they can in this tough economy then they would copy Bing Travel (go to bing.com and then click on travel.) Bing allows you to do a “flexible search”. Not just any flexible search, a fantastic flexible search. This is a outstanding way to save money on any trip you plan on taking in the future. Why? Because you can compare dates. It’s that simple. Changing your travel plans by even just one day can save you hundreds.

So, if you search deep enough into Orbitz’s website, yes, you may find their ‘flexible search’. Not that good is it? No. Nothing compared with Bing. One good thing I will say about Orbitz is their customer service. I don’t think many people care about their ‘Price Guarantee’, we all expect our prices will stay the same. So, along with the subject of their customer service….. As I was on Orbitz’s site the other day a prompt came up on my screen with a lady asking me if she can help me. “Sure”, I said, knowing she wouldn’t be able to. I asked her if they had flexible search on vacation packages. She really didn’t know how to answer and told me I can go to ‘flights’ and then go to flexible search and make my selection. I said I’d already been there and it’s of no help for what I’m looking for. She didn’t understand that when most of us travel we need more than a flexible flight date. We need it all. And this is my suggestion to Orbitz: Take a moment and look at what Bing has done with their flexible search. Give us more options. Allow flexible search for vacation packages. Allow multiple city flexible search. And for our sake of time, speed up your website.
